Cape Spear Lighthouse, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.
Four days ago I was hiking and photographing in the Oregon Cascades when I unexpectedly got into cell phone range and picked up a message asking if I could go to Newfoundland to substitute for another leader with Muench Workshops. After rushing back home, packing, and ~20 hrs of flights, I arrived in the capital city of St. John’s on Canada’s eastern seaboard.
Yesterday morning, our workshop folks were among the first in North America to greet the rising sun as we photographed the Cape Spear Lighthouse on the easternmost point of land on the continent. As we arrived at 4 am, a thick fog rolled in off the Atlantic, sometimes obscuring the lighthouse, but fellow Muench Workshops pro Kevin Pepper and I were confident that patience would be rewarded and our group was able to capture some excellent images of the lighthouse in the fog and in the moments later when the sun broke through and the sky above cleared. A great way to start the day.
