Many years I lived in Hawaii, but never spent much time at Waimanalo, even though I lived in nearby Kailua for a number of years. While on this trip to the Islands, I got a request for photos of Waimanalo Beach, so have been going there for sunrise the past several days. Weather hasn’t been as hoped for, but it’s always wonderful to be on the beach at sunrise in Hawaii.
On the day I took this photo, the sky was completely covered with dark clouds when I arrived at the beach, but just before sunrise a hole opened in just the right place and the light was glorious. And just as the light and clouds were best, an older local woman came walking down the beach with her dogs. I wanted the freshly surf-washed smooth sand in the foreground, but I wasn’t going to tell tutu not to walk there. Thought about cloning out the footprints, but then decided I kind of liked them there.
In this photo, Manana Island (aka Rabbit Island), Makapu’u Point and the Ko’olau mountains form the backdrop for the beach at Waimanalo Bay Beach Park.
